A Field Guide to Your Mini-League: 8 Managers You'll Meet This Season

Every mini-league has the same cast of characters. Different names, different badges, same eight people, season after season. Consider this your official scouting report.

1. The Rage Transferer

Makes a decision in the heat of the moment and lives with it for the rest of the week, whether he wants to or not. His star player blanks on a Saturday, and by Sunday morning that player has been sold in what can only be described as an emotional support transaction. The player he sells always scores a hat-trick the following week. Always. It's not a coincidence, it's a curse, and everyone in the league knows it's coming before he does.

2. The One Who Explains Their Rank Using Bad Luck, Every Single Week

Never had a bad transfer, a bad captain pick, or a bad week. Only ever has bad luck. His captain got subbed at 89 minutes, his defender's clean sheet got chalked off by VAR, his bench player scored 15 while his starter got zero. Every single gameweek has an official villain, and it is never, under any circumstances, him. Has somehow never once considered that fifteen consecutive weeks of "bad luck" might be a pattern.

3. The One Who Vanishes the Moment They're Losing

Posted constantly for the first six gameweeks. Full commentary, transfer previews, captain reveals, the works. Currently sitting eleventh out of twelve. Hasn't sent a single message since Gameweek 7. Will reappear instantly, without shame, the moment they climb even one place, as if the silence never happened.

4. The One Who Joined Just to Annoy Their Ex

Nobody actually knows if this person likes football. What we do know is they check the league table more religiously than anyone else in the group, purely to see one specific name sitting below theirs. Their team selection has nothing to do with fixtures, form, or fitness, it has everything to do with spite. Weirdly, this strategy works more often than it should.

5. The Silent Assassin Who Never Posts But Always Wins

Says nothing in the group chat. Reacts to nothing. Has never once explained a transfer, defended a pick, or engaged in a single argument about heatmaps. Sits quietly in third place for 37 weeks, then wins the whole league on the final day while everyone else was busy arguing about whether Form beats Fixtures. Nobody has ever seen this person's actual team before Gameweek 38.

6. The Manager Whose Whole Personality Is "I Called It"

Predicted a player would explode before anyone else did, once, and has structured their entire FPL identity around this single correct guess. Will remind you of this prediction unprompted, in contexts that have nothing to do with football. Has an equally long list of predictions that were catastrophically wrong, none of which will ever be mentioned.

7. The Never-Early-Transfer Preacher

Has been burned exactly once by transferring a player in too early, and has never recovered from the trauma. Now refuses to make any transfer before a midweek international break has fully concluded, press conferences included, just in case. Watches his rivals capitalize on the same opportunity a week earlier, every single time, and says nothing, because the commandment is the commandment.

8. The One Who Fell Off in Week 9 and Is Still in the League Purely Out of Spite

Realistically out of contention since roughly a third of the way through the season. Has zero mathematical path to winning anything. Still logs in every single week, makes every transfer, argues every decision, purely to make sure nobody forgets they exist. This is, in its own way, the most competitive spirit in the entire league.

Which one are you? Be honest, everyone already knows.
